UNCR Report 2010:
"In 2009, an estimated 377,200 asylum applications were recorded in the 44 European and non-European countries included in this report. This is nearly the same number as in 2008 (377,100 claims). As shown in Figure 1, the 2009 level is far below the one reported in 2001, the highest in the past 10 years with almost 620,000 asylum claims. Out of a total of 377,200 asylum applications registered in 2009, countries in Europe received 286,700 claims, a minor increase of one per cent compared to 2008 (283,700 claims). "
